say it right

This song is quite important because it has got me through alot, I dont care if you dont like it or its not to your taste it just means a whole lot to me.
The lyrics speak to me in a way - I listen to the lyrics of songs and listen to the beat after, I can feel that the songwriter put alot into to this song and it means a great deal to them.

The chorus is:
"Oh you don't mean nothing at all to me
No you dont mean anything at all to me
But you got what it takes to set me free
Oh you could mean everything to me"

To me it basically contradicts itself by those words - I hear this song a lot on the radio whenever I do walk into a room anytime, anyplace, anywhere it freaks me out a little as if it is trying to tell me something? o_0
So furthermore into my FMP I would like to figure this song out to me what it means if I can.

    i think it means that this person she doesnt even know can become everything to her slowlys just by saying the right things, lik it says"oh you don't mean nothing at all to me
    no you don't mean nothing at all to me
    do you got what it takes to set me free
    oh you could mean everything to me" its like shes saying you dont mean anything now but u can mean something, and that she has so much to offer to the right person.Like meeting the guy/girl u love when u first meet them u dont right away know this is the one, it takes all the right words.

    I agree with drunkonshadows on the meaning of this song. Songs and music are very personal things for me, so if I'm experiencing something deep I usually feel it through songs. What this song means to me is that Nelly doesn't want some guy around just so he can get some. She wants to be loved in the DAY and the NITE, not just be told all the right things at nite time. I think she also makes it clear that she's aware of what's going on and she's giving the guy an ultamadum. If you just want me for sex then I don't want that. That's what I'm kind of experiencing right now with a guy. I was really disappointed to find out that we have such different lifestyles, but I feel like he could mean a lot more to me if things were different and if he actually cared about me as a person and not just sexually.

    they have broken up. not on good terms. she doesn't know what went wrong and she want's him to tell her, to "say it right." she tells herself he doesn't mean anything to her, but she can't let it go, until she hears it right, and get's closure.... to set her free. and if he doesn't "say it right" she thinks there might still be a chance because she still loves him.

    ...Well the beats SPEAKS to me. Nelly (In This Song) is not sad nor happy. She sounds more strong and assertive than anything else... Theres the hollowness in the beat as well as the upbeatness thats still in there.

    -Say "I Love You" if you mean it and youre really gonna show up to it (Day or Night...Not Just When Ur Sleeping Together), if not dont say it at all.

    2nd Part Of 1st Verse: (Following "Say It Right"
    -You can either be a jerk or show me you love me (ALL THE TIME) you either love me or you feel nothing for me at all. Do what your heart tells you, because otherwise the "plan" is either to get some ass (From Nelly) or just plane ol BS.

    "Something I Made" and "Another Brick That Ive Laid" are pretty much saying "Ive worked too damn hard trying to live my life to the fullest, ive accomplished a lot, dont just screw it up. As for the whole "Body" bit, shes saying that you need to be worthy of it. Shes saying "A Place God Knows" because its the most precious thing shes got. (meaning her abstinence/ something like that... and you better be sure you love me or else youd be sinning (Which Is Why She Brings Up God) Im Hoping Its Not A Pun When Nelly Says "A Place God Knows, You Should Know Thiis Place Is Holy" and meaning God--->Holy---> Genitals... or else this song is complete bs along with the meaning ive been trying to explain...
